Abstract

|
The sorption capacities of single component system-pectin and guar galactomannan- and pectin/guar galactomannan mixtures as bile adsorbents were determined at various concentrations and different mixing ratios. The sorption capacity for taurocholic acid increased with increasing concentrations of pectin (1-4%) and guar galactomannan (0.5-2%). The 1:1 pectin and guar mixture clearly showed the synergistic effect at 2% concentration. Higher viscosity did not always accompany higher sorption capacity of pectin/guar galactomannan mixtures for taurocholic acid. No significant relationships were detected between Theological properties and bile acid sorption capacity of pectin/guar galactomannan mixtures.
